Summary/Abstract: One of the most recognizable Catholic hierarchs today is Cardinal Robert Sarah. In his publications and speeches, he boldly paints an image of the contemporary Church, without being afraid to talk about its crisis.Among his reflections we can also find a missionary theme. This is particularly interesting and valuable in that it comes from a pupil of the French mission in Guinea, who became one of those responsible for the missionary work of the entire universal Church. He shows the beneficial influence of missionaries on the history of his country and people. He emphasizes the necessity of a supernatural understanding of the nature of the mission ad gentes, its dynamism and fruitfulness, which are grounded in prayer. Sarah outlines the spiritual profile of the missionary. With hope, he points to the the missionary nature of the Church as an opportunity for the renewal of the Church and salvation for all civilization. He points to specific areas that can be a leaven of renewal of the Church and Western culture. Careful reading of the works of Cardinal Sarah underlines the constant exchange of gifts between the Churches, but points to a change in the direction of this exchange. Analysis of the thought of the African cardinal confirms the teaching about the missionary nature of the Church and,at the same time, the internal changes that are taking place within it.
