Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this research is to demonstrate how a state can shape its policies in order to successfully meet the social challenges caused by the large number of foreign nationals who settle in that state for a better living. The political, social and economic aspects will be analysed in order to find an answer to the research question, namely: (how) has the UAE managed to find the right solution to manage an atypical social context, in parallel with meeting the continuing need for economic development?
