Summary/Abstract: The last novel of the contemporary Barcelonian writer, Enrique Vila-Matas, published in 2019 and titled That mindless mist, represents in our opinion, the synthesis of his previous novels. Besides representing a sum of themes and motives and narrative techniques, the novel we are concerned with, presents the narrator’s camouflage into a variety of characters and writers and the transformation of the characters into discourse voices, because of the disembodiment due to the flowing time that influences this radical transmutation. We have analyzed this process using the guidelines of the general-rhetoric analysis postulated by the Spanish school of New Rhetoric, an analysis hat does not discard any of the poetics or noetics rhetoric operations. To summarize, we will dedicate ourselves to analyzing, commenting, and interpreting the lapse of time’s effects mostly over the characters of the novel that not in the least focuses on old age with its consequences, but in an unprecedented way, like the disappearing energy in an incomplete world.
