Summary/Abstract: The article examines the place of the Slavic - Byzantine apocrypha The Virgin Mary's Walk Through the Torments (as well as other apocrypha) in two of the most famous novels by Fyodor Dostoevsky. These are Crime and Punishment (1866) and The Karamazov Brothers (1880), in which special attention has been paid to the Poem or Legend of the Grand Inquisitor included in the work. At the same time, the observations on works of Western European literature from the Enlightenment era, which influenced the origin and development of the idea of The Karamazov Brothers, have been summarized and deepened. However, all the sources used by the author are subordinated to the general idea in each of the novels.
