Summary/Abstract: The study discusses the role of social networks in imposing the cancel culture as a manifestation of the multilayered social polarization. Emphasis is placed on the specific characteristics of social sharing platforms, which expand the boundaries of the cancel culture. The focus is on the idea that cases of social exclusion can also be the result of the intense spread of misinformation. This leads to a rapid formation of virtual communities that are empowered, react impulsively and disregard facts, experts, authorities and institutions. An attempt has been made to outline the consequences of the cancel culture in the field of public communications and the journalistic profession.
