Summary/Abstract: The current article studies the oddities of the Eulogy for Irenaeus attributed to Clement of Ohrid. Usually the authors of manuscript inventories believe that the subject of the eulogy is St. Irenaeus of Lyon but this personality is too far detached from the Balkan context. What would be the theological or religious necessity to glorify the saint of Lyon? Our hypothesis is that the eulogy is dedicated to Irenaeus of Sirmium, and part of the text is a borrowing of Irenaeus of Lyon's biography. The purpose of this borrowing is to manipulate the Christian community in Sirmium/Srem, that Irenaeus of Srem resembles a Catholic saint. The dating of the text is in the Cyrillomethodian era (more precisely in the period 870-885).
