Summary/Abstract: The current article offers hypothetical readings of the acrostic texts of two canons based on transcripts from GIM 164 (State Historical Museum edition, synodical number 164): form the service for the martyr Nikephoros of Antioch (on 25th of February) and for the bishop of Gaza (on 26th of February). The acrostic texts in the two canons contain the name of one of the disciples of Cyril and Methodius – Naum. The hypothesis suggests that the acrostic texts do not show signatures of Naum the translator. The contents of the acrostics suggest that the name of Naum is tied to his Assumption. In the canon for Nikephoros of Antioch the acrostic contains antonomastic signature of Clement of Ohrid, and in the canon for Porphyrios, bishop of Gazа, the possible author of the acrostic remains anonymous for the time being.
