Summary/Abstract: This publication examines one of the specific aspects of the “One Belt and One Road” initiative related to the relationship between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China. The article analyzes the attitude of Kazakhstani intellectuals to the problems of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and China. Consequently, its participation in the initiative is an important part of regional cooperation projects. However, since the gradual implementation of the project in different countries, including Kazakhstan, different voices have been heard. Various scholars began to analyze and comment on the pros and cons of cooperation between the two countries. This study is an analysis of Kazakhstan’s perception of the problems of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in the context of the “One Belt and One Road” initiative. System, comparative and structural-functional methods of analysis were used in the course of the article. The author concludes that Kazakhstan, China’s neighbor, is a very valuable participant in the “One Belt and One Road” initiative, as its geographical location and resources provide more opportunities to open up the potential for development and mutual cooperation between Kazakhstan and China. Against this background, expanding cooperation between the two countries will become important and a priority, but negative opinions are also emerging. The statements of Kazakhstan’s intellectuals allow us to make some observations. On the one hand, China needs Kazakhstan’s participation in a number of cooperation projects, because Kazakhstan as a neighbor has geographical and resource advantages. On the other hand, China, having the most powerful economy in the world, provides great opportunities for the development of Kazakhstan. But at the same time, both countries must balance their interests. It is important for them to avoid the mistakes made by other leading external forces cooperating with the region. It is necessary to avoid situations where geopolitical interests weaken the economic expediency of cooperation. Relations should be built on equality, economic pragmatism, and shared prosperity.
