Summary/Abstract: The diary of one of the eyewitnesses of the First Russian Revolution is at the center of the study. By nature, the diary is one of the most subjective of a historical source, but it allows to assess the mindset of the participants in the events. The unpublished personal diary of an ordinary citizen of the Russian Empire is not the most common sources, the memoirs of famous intellectuals are more common (the article draws parallels with the memoirs of V. F. Dzhunkovsky and M. Gorky). The author of the diary was an agronomist from the city of Vyatka, Alexander Alexandrovich Prazdnikov. The diary was written in the initial year of the first Russian revolution. Vyatchanin writes about the revolutionary events in Moscow, in the midst of which he was from October to December 1905. The article presents a comparative analysis of diary entries with the memoirs of other mentioned participants of the revolution. A. Prazdnikov adhered to left views and was close to the social-democratic ideology. At the same time, the diary pays attention to and describes the representatives of the monarchists, Social Revolutionaries, and Cadets. The revolutionary events are reflected against the background of other aspects of public life, such as higher education (A. Prazdnikov was a student of the Petrovsky Agricultural Academy), theatrical performances and public lectures that the author attended. One of the most striking events witnessed by the author of the diary was the funeral of the revolutionary N. Bauman, which was attended by thousands of people. The diary presents a very personal view of the revolution, the available assessments of events and people are characterized by brightness and even some maximalism.
