Summary/Abstract: This publication aims to analyse the nexus between personal data protection and national security, which are of fundamental importance to the Member States in particular and the European Union in general. The publication examines cases involving personal data breaches under Article 33 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the remedies and financial penalties imposed by Member States' supervisory authorities. It reviews cases of breaches occurring with both public authorities and private companies. As outcome of the study, proposal for amendment of the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the part regarding the protection of personal data was suggested.
