Summary/Abstract: At the beginning – a diff erence of half a century, during development – similarities and diff erences, in the maturityphase – separate development paths, but similar artistic values. The structural diff erences between the two genres aredetermined by the author’s intention. The method of presenting of operettas requires an exigence similar to that necessaryfor opera productions. At the end of the 19th century – a diversifi cation and multiple ramifi cations of the development of theoperetta genre, on diff erent lands of Europe and America. In the fi rst half of the 20th century, opera ended its long process ofdevelopment, and operetta gave birth to new genres of musical theatre – diff erent in Europe and America.
