Summary/Abstract: In this paper – based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of children’s speech – we identify universal and specific features typical for phonological development of individuals. Comparing the exactly set parameters (especially the value of the index of understandability and the value of syllable length of children’s words) with the findings from the quantitative analysis (identified phonological processes and consonantal groups) in the analysed acoustic strings retrieved from the natural speech environment we reveal a universal feature significant for Slovak speaking children with the identical degree of phonological development. It is an occurrence of consonants and consonantal (binomial/trinomial) groups in the initial, middle and final position of generated words and forms.
