The Reader as a New Focus of Writing and Meaning

Summary/Abstract: In this work I question the position of the author as the creator and spiritual owner of his work. This work discusses the disappearance of the author within the traditional form of understanding and the birth of the reader as a consequence of the above mentioned. I start with theoretical postulates about the problem author/ reader, and after that I consider possible reader positions using the direct analysis of a randomly selected story by Kafka and Coetzee’s novel ‘’Foe’’. The intention of this paper is to show that the reader is really the focus of writing and meaning, as Jovanov in ‘’Postmodernism dictionary’’ writes.
