Summary/Abstract: "Research on the relationship between motivation and students’ progress indicates thatmotivation is the effect and not the result, contradicting popular views on the role ofmotivation and ways of its achievement. Evidence shows that instead of artificially stimulatingsatisfaction much better results are induced by employing scientifically-proven effective teaching methods. The key principle is to encourage students to use their memory to the full. Also reducing assessment will limit the stress in the process. If the tasks are well adjusted to the students’ level and learners can rely on the teacher’s commitment and support when faced with difficulties, the sense of agency and success will be the best stimulator of motivation."
