Summary/Abstract: Since love is a circle, isolate oneself inside a round shape becomes a metaphorical expression for the search for love and identity. Based on an excerpt from the novel Augustino et le chœur de la destruction [Augustino and the Choir of Destruction] by the Canadian writer Marie-Claire Blais, this study aims at showing that a simple gesture can sometimes produce a whole system of symbols connecting a young girl not to a young love but to her maternal self, as part of a whole feminine filiation. As it will be argued below, the maternal filiation is an intermediary stage between paternal and classical maternal filiation (understood as a mother– son relationship). Narrative is thus a privileged (non-)place for generational feminine transmission.
