Summary/Abstract: The shortness of time spent in the sector of employees who receive tourism education has been in the interest of tourism researchers for a long time. In this study, it is aimed to examine the mediating role of the quality of work life in the relationship between the reality shock experienced by the tourism students and career commitment. For this purpose, quantitative method was adopted in the research. The sample of the study was determined according to the convenience sampling method, which is one of the non-probabilistic sampling types. In this context, 250 employees who have received tourism education at the state and foundation universities in Turkey at the undergraduate or associate degree level constitute the sample of the research. Questionnaire was used as the data collection technique in the research and the data were obtained from the online platform in the period of April-July 2021. In the obtained data, besides descriptive statistics, statistical analyzes such as explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were used to test the mediation effect. As a result of the findings, it is seen that reality shock is gathered in three dimensions as "not complying with industry expectations", "feeling of inadequacy", "difficulty in customer relations". It has been determined that employees who have received tourism education are exposed to reality shock and the difficulty in customer relations is high when they are exposed. In addition, it has been determined that non-compliance with industry expectations, which is one of the reality shocks subdimensions, negatively affects the quality of work life, and the feeling of inadequacy and difficulty in guest relations have a negative effect on career commitment. According to the results of the analysis, it has been determined that the quality of work life has a positive effect on career commitment. As a result, reality shock dimensions have a significant effect on career commitment and quality of work life. In addition, it was determined that the relationship between reality shock and career commitment was mediated by the quality of work life.
