Summary/Abstract: The dramatic text introduces within the linguistic frame spatial and gestural dimensions but also paralinguistic aspects that need to be addressed during the act of translation. As for a play such as Gianni Spezzano‘s Donna di cuori, the fact that it is so richly culturally connoted by the use of the Naples dialect, rises a major challenge for the translator, regarding not so much the accuracy, but first and foremost his/her own self-effacement from the process. By keeping the strategy of the predication present in the source-text, he/she needs to be able to render the whole range of emotions beheld by the text. The clear understanding of the message by the public depends upon the success of such linguistic mastery which therefore contributes to the success or the flop of the staging itself.
