Summary/Abstract: This article briefly describes the disturbing effects of the bubonic plague pandemic (later known as “the black death”) on the culture of late medieval Europe. The main focus of this text is on the exemplar description by Giovanni Boccaccio in his novel Decameron of the devastations and the turmoil, caused by the plague on the 14th century Florentine society.
