The Educational Dimension of the Community Services Offered by the Public Libraries

Summary/Abstract: In the last decade, the Romanian public libraries have registered changes occured at the info-documentary services and cultural-educational levels, organised for the citizens. According to the modern theories of the informative and communication sciences, the managers of the libraries focus on the idea of changes and they manage to prove that the organisations they coordonate have an open character and they can easily adapt to the changes that have occured on the economical, political, cultural, educational and social levels.The science of leading an info-documentary organisation has entered into a new stage of evolution and affirmation, that involves finding some concrete solutions of innovation for the Romanian librarianship environment. Finding some concrete solutions to diversify the services offered to the citizens, has contributed to the improvement of the info-documentary organisations’ image in our country.The constant preoccupation of the librarian managers had a majour role in the combination of the performances obtained in the domain of promoting books and lecture, with obtaining important results in the social and educational life.If we were to firmly analyse the situation of the Romanian public libraries, we would notice that concrete methods of reactivation of their significance in the community are looked for. One of the methods refers to the enlargement and improvement of the info-documentary and educational services designed for library customers. Therefore, the ensemble of the activities organised by the librarianship structures, include the following categories of services: services of specialty that are based on the management of development and organisation of the collections of library; services of communication of the collections; cultural services; services of social and local interest; information services in the traditional and computer based system; services with educational character.The educational functions specific for the public libraries increase in the field of some specific activities that can be analysed from the point of view of the management of the community services and also from the point of view of the management of the community services of the collections. Therefore, positive results can be obtained in three directions. The first one, wants the direct collaboration with the institutions from the Romanian educational system, the second is attached to promoting permanent education among seniors and the last one refers to the info-documentary, educational and local services organised for the citizens with special conditions.About the effect of the services offered to the citizens by the public libraries, the conclusion of the specialists from the librarianship science, are precise andLibrariathey refer to the fact that these services contribute, directly or indirectly, to the completion of the education and personal and professional development process, of the citizens that benefit of these services.
