Summary/Abstract: The internal migration is a migration of population within the same municipality. Migration between the adjacent settlements and the prior centers of municipalities is negligible, whereas migration from mountain parts to Caribrod (Dimitrovgrad) and to suburbs is very important. The external migration occurred in two directions. Since the majority of the population living in Dimitrovgrad represents the Bulgarian minority in Yugoslavia, the population migrated to the East – towards Bulgaria, and to the West to all parts of Yugoslavia and to almost all countries in Europe. The migrations within the municipality and Yugoslavia are exclusively of economic nature, while the migrations to Bulgaria are of economic or political nature. Even though the population of Dimitrovgrad municipality migrated to almost all cities of the ex Yugoslavia, the biggest migrations were to Belgrade and Voivodina (Novi Sad, Kikinda, Mokrin), to engineering centres Bor, Kragujevac, Niš, Pirot, mining centres in Serbia and in vicinity of Kavadarci and Negotin on the river Vardar in Macedonia, and to industrial centres in Slovenia... This migration was continuous and it happens even today. Yet mass migrations took place after the Second World War, and the most numerous ones were between 1960. and 1980. The migrations within a municipality and within the country were the consequence of education of young people and their employment in economy sectors of the municipality or Yugoslavia.
