Summary/Abstract: After the Second World War, population was secretly migrating to the West. These migrations were provoked by the fact that Yugoslavia had become a communist country which was not fond of peasants in the first years after the war. Later, in the early sixties, the communist regime decided to allow free migrations of all Yugoslavs to foreign countries, because they were aware of the fact that there was not enough employment in Yugoslavia. The opening of the borders and the possibility for every Yugoslav citizen to be able to get a passport and travel to all corners of the globe brought about an explosion of migrations to the West. Many people from Banat villages went to their cousins and friends who lived in the North America. Their friends and relatives helped them find a job insuring their stay on this continent forever. This is the period of the biggest mass migrations of the Romanian population form Serbian part of Banat to the North America.
