Review of the publication „The basic income worldwide: Arguments, experiments, history“

Summary/Abstract: The review highlights the lack of criticality of the authors when describing the unconditional basic income. The original text fails to develop important aspects of the implementation of the unconditional basic income (UBI) in detail and ignores the issue of financing. Despite its unpopularity among supporters of the UBI, the issue of financing is crucial. This does not concern only the question of which taxes should finance the UBI, but also the distributional and distortive effects of such taxes. The review considers that current pilot and experimental projects are insufficient in terms of providing an understanding of the issue, and tend to generalise the implications of introducing the unconditional basic income.
