Summary/Abstract: The paper gives an overview of the historical development of the of services forthe departed in the period after the iconoclastic crisis in the IX century in the Byzantineregion. The sources of the most important monastic typika of the period from the 9th to the15th centuries are first exposed, and the most important and oldest prayers from the sameperiod, in order for the review to conclude with the short meaning of the oldest orders ofthe services for the departed of the mentioned period. Finally, the above mentionedsources give us some general conclusion and assumption about the historical developmentof these services, creating in this way the basis for some future more detailed analysis andreview of the historical development of the services for the departed.
