Summary/Abstract: Present article is part of a larger scientific research, my PhD thesis, which focuses on the role of the elites within Transnistria history. Russian foreign policy regarding Transnistria for the period of 1989-2009 was heavily depending on the relationship between Moscow and Chișinău. The article is divided intro three sections:1989-1992, 1992-2001, 2001-2009, according to important events that accompanied that periods: transition that followed the collapse of USSR, armed conflict and its consequences, the ruling of Communist Party in the Republic of Moldova. The research also reflects main agreements reached in the process of negotiations of the transnistrian issue, on bilateral and multilateral level, contribution of OSCE and Ukraine on identifying solutions for political settlement of the transnistrian frozen conflict.
