Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the comparative analysis of European and Polish transport policies’ aims and their compatibility with the concept of sustainable transport. The author investigates how far do the strategic documents establishing Polish transport policy include the sustainable transport principles as the ideological inspiration and whether those principles can be found in the particular goals of this policy. The areas of transport policy’s assessment include: the perception of transportation as the factor of economic growth, social cohesion and transport availability issue, traffic’s impact on natural environment and quality of life, and the safety of different categories of traffic participants. The paper provides preliminary conclusions of sociological desk research, including the Polish and European transport policy strategic documents, as well as the analysis of existing statistical data picturing the functioning of Polish and European transport systems.
