Summary/Abstract: This year, May 28 marks 100 years since, on the Pentecost Sunday of 1921, at the time when the priests entered the church for service, in Plopiş, a village of Maramureş, a baby boy was born: Ioan Chira, future monk, archimandrite, abbot, vicar-bishop, eparchial bishop, ad personam archbishop, Justinian the archbishop, also named the spiritual voivode of Maramureş. From 1944 to September1973, Rohia Monastery was ruled with much competence and grace by Archimandrite Justinian Chira. With the appointment of Father Justinian as abbot of the monastery, a new stage in Rohia’s history begins. He created a new direction for the monastic life in Rohia, on spiritual, administrative, cultural and missionary-pastoral field. He took much care with the formation of his disciples, not neglecting their intellectual training, but, also improving their stability and love for the monastery. Father Justinian has written many books, published hundreds of studies, articles, and prefaces that complete his work. He related, corresponded, advised and talked with many intellectuals.
