Summary/Abstract: Formative assessment should be part of the teaching and learning process. This paper presents a brief discussion concerning the importance of formative assessment as part of the instructional process, along with several examples of formative assessment that were often used by the author in her teaching. Finally, a newly developed short formative assessment is presented, and discussions from its use in a graduate and an undergraduate course.
