Soft Violence

Summary/Abstract: Yes, violence is everywhere and at all times,” Alfredo Jaara wrote. How do we study violence that is “everywhere”? Increasingly often we encounter problems with naming and describing situations that we intuit to be violent, although by themselves they do not have the classic characteristics of violence. The author proposes the concept of soft violence, which was born during the analysis of the empirical material of the “Silent Morality” project. This concept aims to identify those forms of violence which have not been noticed in the mainstream of social sciences referring to the concept of modernity and liberal philosophy. Soft violence is placed in the background of other invisible or hardlynoticeable forms of violence: structural, slow and symbolic.
