Summary/Abstract: The author of this article undertakes an analysis of the problem of fertilitydecline in contemporary societies (on the example of Poland), lookingat the causes and conditions of the universal phenomenon, which is postponingthe decision to have a child for later and later. If the reasons for thisstate of affairs include: lack of housing, adequate work (i.e. social stability),then it seems that looking at the problem from cohabitation, free relationships, consumerist preferences, etc., it can be said that at the root of sucha decision lies (in fact) the personal immaturity of modern people. Of course, the ethical light in such an evaluative perspective is Thomistic ethics, which is still binding in the doctrine of the Catholic Church, and as suchis dominant (at least theoretically) in the opinions of moral Catholics. Asit seems, the priceless value of the child, and the objective happiness of thefamily associated with it, are and should be the most important determinantfor ethical divagations on the subject, decline in fertility in Polish society, but also in Europe and the West in general.
