Summary/Abstract: The question of the Eucharist holds among the various theological themespresent in the mystical works of the Blessed Maria Celeste Crostarosaan exceptional place. The highly innovative approach to this sacramentdraws our attention, especially, if we consider that her works were writtenin the 18th century when the most of Christians would have received TheHoly Communion only a few times a year. Crostarosa’s intuitions related tothe Eucharistic spirituality are ahead of her time (e.g., the concept of “theliving image” and “the living memory”). It results most probably not onlyfrom the revelations she had experienced, but also from these both facts:from her younger age she had shown deep faith in the real presence ofChrist in the Blessed Sacrament, and many of the key events of her life hadoccured during her encounters with Jesus in the Holy Communion. Theseare also some of the reasons why one of the contemporary theologians hasnamed her “the mystic of the Eucharist”.
