Summary/Abstract: The question asked by Martin Heidegger applies to every pope, who inthe modern world is often seen as a Don Quixote in a white cassock, fightingagainst the dragon of nihilism. In this sketch, I’m trying to present thefascination with the person of John Paul II, which was recorded in two books-interviews that Jan Grzegorczyk conducted with father Jan Gora OP:Góra albo jak wyżebrać niebo i człowieka. Rady ojca Jana spisane przez JanaGrzegorczyka (1999) and Święty i błazen. Jan Góra w odsłonach Jana Grzegorczyka(2014). The Polish Dominican friar realized the teachings of JohnPaul II in his ministry, whom he consistently called John Paul the Great. The meetings of young people in Lednica, which were started by fatherGóra, are a spiritual monument to his fascination with the Pope, whoseteachings were for him a recipe for holiness. This essay, written after thedeath of Jan Góra, is an attempt to answer the question – who is John PaulII according to Jan Góra?
