Summary/Abstract: The article consists of five parts. Firstly, it outlines the legal situation ofthe Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. Then, it presentsthe elements of the Church’s doctrine that are significant for its presencein public life. The third part shows data on the actual religiosity of citizensof the Russian Federation who identify themselves with Orthodoxy.The fourth part indicates the main elements of the state's policy towardsthe Church during the rule of Vladimir Putin. In conclusion, the articlepoints out the consequences of the Church's situation for its mission.
