Summary/Abstract: The tense political situation of the 17th century stimulated the irenic, pacifist, chiliastic and philosophical efforts of Jan Amos Comenius to ensure peace and tranquillity in society in the world and between religions. This article emphasizes the anthropological-theological background and the development of his ingenious ideas about the correction of man, the world and humanity as a whole. He connects these ideas with the events of his life and characterises them in the context of 17th century history. He points to Comenius's social and political efforts, the meaning and justification of which we can still appreciate today. This article reflects Comenius's political and social activities and their consequences for his life and work. It looks at the various periods of Comenius's life and chronologically describes and evaluates his active efforts during the tragic periods of persecution of the Czech Protestant Intelligence. It takes information sources from previous research by leading commentaries and summarises them into chronological units. This is then enriched with the testimonies of Comenius, drawn from his treatises, writings, correspondence or other relevant documents.
