Summary/Abstract: The year 1914 triggered the great competition for the maintenance or breach of Romania from the Triple Alliance. The Central Powers had made desperate efforts to keep the orientation of Romania's foreign policy unchanged. Of the Great Powers that formed the Entente, Russia was the most interested in weakening the influence of Austria-Hungary in the Balkans, as such, there was an intensification of the Romanian-Russian political relations at the beginning of 1914.What produced the most vivid agitation in the European diplomatic circles, however, was the visit of the Tsar of Russia to Constanţa, on June 14, 1914, continued by the talks between Brătianu and Sazonov in the following days. The fact is explainable because, under the appearance of its protocolary character, commented very generously in newspapers, the Tsar's visit to Constanţa marked the long political conversations between the statesmen of the two neighboring countries.
