Summary/Abstract: Shah Ismail who lived in the 16th century is one of the important poets of Azerbaijan. He is also the shah of the Safavid state and the sheikh of the Safavid tariqat. He used the pseudonym Khatayi in his poems. He wrote his works in Turkish. He has a few Persian poems. §There are three works of Shah Ismail, which are Dah-nama Nasihat-nama and Diwan. The critical text of his Diwan with a comprehensive review and together with the facsimile of Istanbul Research Institute Şevket Rado Manuscripts nr. 51 copy, has been published by Muhsin Macit: Divan-i Khatayi, Türkiye Yazma Eserler Kurumu Baskanligi Publications, Istanbul 2017. This study is based on this publication.In this study, the language features of the Khatayi’s Diwan are emphasized. The features of Azerbaijani Turkish are dominant in the Khatayi’s Diwan. In the Khatayi’s Diwan, there are also a few Chagatay Turkish features such as the unmarked pronominal n, the accusative case marked by /+nI/, the dative case marked by /+ga/, the ablative case marked by /+dIn/ and the verb bol-.
