Summary/Abstract: The decline of oral culture causes folk stories to be transferred into the written culture. Manuscripts and lithographs are the first examples of the tales transferred to the written cultural medium. Stories lose some of their features of oral culture medium in being transferred into the written culture medium. Pictures in harmony with the plot of the stories were added to the texts transferred to lithographs to eliminate the gaps caused by the features that cannot be transferred from the verbal culture medium and support the narration. Punctuation marks, one of the tools designed to compensate for the lost features of stories, were started to be used with the press printing of stories. Therefore, how the punctuation marks are used reflects the changes and transformations that stories went through while being transferred from the verbal culture medium to the written culture medium. Süleyman Tevfik Özzorluoğlu was one of tho se who prepared the printed editions of folk stories. In this study, the functions of the punctuation marks used by Süleyman Tevfik Özzorluoğlu in preparing the stories for press printing were examined to show the change and transformation of folk stories within the context of punctuation marks. The study was limited to 21 stories published between 1911 and 1938. In conclusion, it was found that the punctuation marks had essential functions in the folk stories transferred into the written culture medium.
