Competence versus capability

Summary/Abstract: In the article we deal with the issue of competencies, respectively the incorrect use of this very frequent term. In the last decade, the term competence has pushed out of the pedagogical dictionary all the nice and concise Slovak professional terms such as ability, skill or competence. As a result of this invasive process, chaos arose in the conceptual apparatus of educators and the term competence began to be used meaninglessly. Our effort is to point out the shortcomings and how to eliminate them, so that nice Slovak pedagogical concepts related to abilities, skills, suitabilities are meaningfully used again.
