Summary/Abstract: This article presents, in a synthetic fashion, the state of research on the life and activity of Stanisława Leszczyńska, the midwife of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. The author has found hitherto-unknown archival materials in the Archive of the Institute of National Remembrance: descriptions of the pseudo-medical experiments performer on Stanisława Leszczyńska in the concentration camp as well as the testimonies of her fellow female inmates who confirmed that they were indeed performed. Thanks to the comparative analysis of source material, he has succeeded in establishing the sequence of events related to the first four months of Stanisława’s time in the camp. He has also undertaken a critical analysis of a letter written by sixteen camp inmates that was addressed to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints in which the heroic attitude of the Auschwitz midwife as well as the credibility of her Report are put into question. The author has indicated a series of puzzling events and situations from Stanisława’s life that demand verification and further research, above all in the archival research of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum as well as the Institute of National Remembrance.
