Summary/Abstract: Music is one of the indispensable elements of a sovereign's court, regardless of the period we are referring to. The sovereign creates through his court the favorable environment for the arts to germinate and develop, benefiting at the same time from all the advantages that result from this fact. Materially dependent on the owner, the musicians gradually come to serve his interests, propagating through their art his ideas and policy, thus creating a good image in the eyes of others. Although the information regarding the music practiced at the courts of Moldavia and Wallachia, in the first centuries of their existence, is extremely few and unclear, we can still form an idea, especially by analogy with the music practiced in a wider area, at other monarchical courts, thus obtaining an overview of the musical phenomenon and the role played by it in a certain period of time.
