Summary/Abstract: This article presents the activity of the “Lubaczów” Operational Group of the Internal Security Corps, which was engaged in counter-guerrilla warfare against the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army after the conclusion of Operation Vistula. As a result of an intense search, over the course of slightly more than three months branches of the Internal Security Corps succeeded in finding and liquidating the headquarters and directorate of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in all of Poland and executed Jarosław “Stiah” Staruch, the national providnyk (leader), as well as all major partisan groups in Lubaczów County. Consequently, the Ukrainian underground indeed ceased to exist. Through the analysis of little-known documents, the author demonstrates that the aim of the Internal Security Corps was more than just the liquidation of the Ukrainian underground. At the same time, the members of the Polish pro-independence underground were arrested, while the personnel of political parties and social organizations inthe region was purged. Under the aegis of the Internal Security Corps, numerous branches of the Volunteer Reserve of the Citizens’ Militia were created, while the structures of the Polish Workers’ Party were strengthened at the county level. Thus, the basic aim of the “Lubaczów” Operational Group was the bolstering of communist rule in Lubaczów County.
