Summary/Abstract: Background: The analysis of the socio-economic development of the new member states of the European Union (EU-13) in the years between 2004 and 2018. Research purpose: The paper aims to compare the pace and the level of socio-economic development of the new European Union Member States within and without the Eurozone. Methods: Descriptive statistics method was used in the analysis, as well as taxonomic analysis and Ward’s hierarchical grouping method. Conclusions: The study showed that the greatest increase in the level of socio-economic development was achieved by Poland and Slovakia, followed by Estonia, Lithuania, and Malta. Despite the smaller range of changes, for many years, among the 13 analyzed countries, the most developed countries include both the euro area countries: Malta, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic that remains outside the zone. This means that the pace and level of socio-economic development of the new EU Member States depends not only on their membership in the Eurozone, but also on international economic ties and previously achieved development potential.
