What Is Theory in Social Queer Theory?

Summary/Abstract: The author attempts to outline the specificity of the presence of queer studies in Polish science, where it is still perceived as the result of methodological and theoretical error. Answering the titular question, he refers to the postcolonial theory, Chantal Mouffe’s agonistic political philosophy, the inspiration with Michel Foucault’s and Jacques Derrida’s thought, that is, to those theoretical and political tactics and inspirations which have helped him write what he calls the Polish queer. Above all, however, he tries to point out that the ontological, epistemological and methodological “back-ground” of queer studies is rooted in particular political circumstances, in the event of the AIDS pandemic and in how that event has transformed the political and theoretical activities of non-heterosexual and transgender people.
