Summary/Abstract: Modern biotechnology is a relatively new field globally and has been promoted by the significant results recorded, especially in the last ten years, by the applied and substantiated research of genetic changes on different plant varieties and animal species. The object of study of modern biotechnology is represented by genetic modifications, more precisely by genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The use of these microorganisms is welcomed by states that produce genetically modified crops in order to obtain crops that are as large as possible and more resistant to pests (eg USA, China, Argentina, Canada, Brazil). On the other hand, there are states that are not very open to the use of new biotechnologies (eg EU states) which, rather, agree on a policy of prevention and precaution in terms of expanding the field.
