Summary/Abstract: Workers’ remittances represent an important form of foreign funds inflow in developing and transitional countries. In these countries millions of people depend on permanent inflow of remittances. The importance of foreign funds is tremendous for poverty reduction, increase in consumption or savings and start up of certain forms of independent economic activity. There are many factors which determine nature, amount and the way of remittances’ transfers. This article shows demographic, economic and institutional determinants and tries to point out to the factors that may improve their economic effects. This paper also presents and compares the data for some Western Balkan countries.
