Summary/Abstract: The primary objective of this study was to analyse the relationship word - action in ritual and custom oriented complex of Epiphany/Vodice in the village Bituse (Dolna Reka) understood as the text of folklore, in which its constituent elements both verbal and non-verbal are treated equally. The research has been based on the following theories: cultural by Yuri Lotman, ritual by Nikita Iljica Tolstoy, the collective memory of religious groups by Maurice`s Halbwachs and commemorative ceremonies by Paul Connerton. The collection of selected elements of verbal rhetoric and the rhetorics of gesture from the past event and its celebrations, i.e. the incarnate of worship, is a base for visual representation of the relationship word - action/act/gesture. This collection is presented in the texts themselves (stories) of ritual entities such as John the Baptist and the godparent. The use of it (obviously selective) in the analysis of the celebration of the Baptism of Jesus in the village Bituse (on selected material which was subject to strong selection) showed that the bond that determines the nature of the topical relationship turns out to be listening understood as an act/action.
