Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 20th century, Israel Scheffler, the most important representative of education philosophy in the United States highlighted the necessity of conceiving and organising educational activities on a foundation of critical thinking of the analytic type. His entire work demonstrated the idea that educational practice can be enriched through efforts in philosophy to research its foundations. However, just as practice can be validated through theoretical reflection, the philosophical understanding can also broaden in contact with pedagogic activity.
