Summary/Abstract: This paper presents complex processes that followed the organization of Catholic Church in Bosnia and Herzegovina upon the decision of the Congress of Berlin to entrust those territories to Austro-Hungarian authority. New Vatican’s policy and balance of powers led to significant marginalization of Franciscan order which observed the religious needs of Catholic population in those areas during Turkish rule and showed high level of proficiency and capability to adjust to all challenges resulted from unchristian authorities determined to spread their own faith by all possible means. Entrusting of the most important church affairs to Society of Jesus, clearly indicated the existence of harmonized plans of Holy See and Viennese court for permanent occupancy of these areas and for enabling further penetration to East through creation of deeper hinterland for Dalmatian coast and disruption of all Serbian and Montenegrin plans for using their compatriots to accomplish proclaimed strategic goals. Then established church organization, followed by organized settling of Catholic population, retained to this day and enabled Croats to become one of the constitutive nations requisite for deciding the faith of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
