Summary/Abstract: The Sarajevo Museums oriental collection consists of about 900 inventory units, with manuscripts and printed matter in Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Persian and Arabic, mainly from Sarajevo during the Ottoman period. These include about a hundred manuscripts in Arabic and Turkish dealing with theology, shari’a law, linguistics, literature, history, medicine and so on. Among the most valuable of these are illuminated copies of the Qur’an and the Enam prayer book, a transcription of Muvekit’s Bosnian Chronicle, and Nidai’s book of physic. It also contains an important collection of documents, including defters (cadastral tax census records) and individual documents.
