CUSTOMS REVENUE IN THE KINGDOM OF SERBIA 1883–1903

Summary/Abstract: Customs revenue during the last two decades of the 19th century was, next to taxes and monopolies, one of the most important sources of government revenue in Serbia. The goal of this paper is to show its fluctuations in the period between the customs tariff of 1883, and the start of establishing trade relations with other countries, and the customs tariff of 1904 which aimed to protect the state industry. The paper also analyzes the contribution of customs revenue to overall government revenue. The structure of customs revenue and its fluctuations are also shown in terms of specific import/export states.
