RESEARCH METHODS OF LINGUISTIC DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

Summary/Abstract: Linguistic discourse analysis is a linguistic and not a political analysis that aims to use linguistic methods to describe discourses as communicative social events, since it is a descriptive analysis approach. Due to the fact that there are several analysis models within linguistic discourse analysis, one cannot speak of uniform and generally applicable analysis methods. Which priorities have to be set in a discourse linguistic analysis, depends among other factors primarily on the specifics of the discourse that is the subject of a particular analysis. Nevertheless, a common basis can be recognized for all approaches that differ in their analysis focus. These approaches and their common basis are described in this paper.
